Wednesday 13 June 8pm-late
SVA, 4 John Street, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 2HA
£4 in advance and £5 on the door. Trading Post 01453 759116
They came from furthest Gadjistan and choose Barcelona as the place where they would open their suitcases and air their instruments. Seven musicians bound by their Gadjistani culture, a rich and festive culture with bewitching rhythms and funny dances, exuberant, theatrical melodies and a mish-mash of languages. Gadjo have toured extensively through Europe, sowing their musical mayhem as they go, from gypsy-cumbia, balkanic-ska to reggae-swing and surf tango. Sometimes they appear playing an intimate acoustic set on the market square, sometimes under the lights of a festival stage, but wherever it is expect the dust to fly as the music kidnaps your heart and lifts your feet into an unstoppable dance. |

Resound presents
Hans-Joachim Roedelius, the Godfather of Ambient
Friday 22 June 2012 8pm
Brunel Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP
Tickets £5 in advance, £6.50 on the door
available from ‘Trading Post’ 01453 759116 or online from www.sva.org.uk
Resound is delighted to present a very special solo performance by Roedelius - one of the icons of electronic music. Roedelius was a key player at the birth of Kosmische, Krautrock, Synth Pop and Ambient. His collaborations with Brian Eno, Dieter Moebius, Michael Rother and many others at least equal the more well-known innovations of German cohorts Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Can. His 40-plus solo albums are just as radical in seeking an unlikely reconciliation with the past. Cross-wiring Krautrock’s brutalist modernism with an earlier strain of teutonic enquiry, melding weird improvised electronica with folk, jazz and classical sounds to often stunning effect. “Hans-Joachim Roedelius is one of the true originals of modern music. His delicate and whistful compositions seem to come from some long and secret musical tradition - like the meditations of Sufi poets, or the haikus of Zen monks.” - Brian Eno |

The Guild of Cheesemakers
Stand + Stare
Brunel Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP
Friday 3 August 8pm
Saturday 4 August 3pm & 8pm
Stand + Stare's The Guild of Cheesemakers not only incorporates the finest cheese and wine tasting north of Camembert, it also boasts a dynamic new script directed by Emma Callendar (Theatre Uncut/National Theatre of Scotland), a multi-talented cast and a fantastical, debate-provoking story that gets right to the heart of what it means to age and be human.
At tables laid with crisp white cloths, professional experts from Hobbs House Bakery and Woefuldane’s Organic Dairy invite you to taste a selection of artisan cheeses, wines and breads. Over the course of the evening, as the gastronomic delights enhance your experience, you gradually uncover the secrets of the inscrutable 198…a cheese like no other. Is it from space? Is it an elixir of youth? Or is it, simply, a rather good vintage?
Catch this exciting local company before they head up to Edinburgh for their Fringe debut.
As Exeunt Magazine put it, a “…beguiling, thought-provoking and, of course, tasty experience.”(****)
The Saturday matinee is a special one off chance for young people to attend a tasting half price. Tickets are limited, so if you are 25 or under, get yours quick, as this is a one-off deal. With three glasses of wine for ten pounds it’s cheaper than the pub, even without cheese, bread and the performance!
Tickets: £20 (£10 for under 25′s on Sat, 3pm) Includes cheese, wine and bread.

Stroud Jazz Sessions jam with special guest Jim Blomfield

Thursday 9 August 8.15pm
Jim Blomfield is an amazing pianist with a quality and groove equalled by few. It's a delight to have him at Stroud Jazz Sessions. Jim will be performing a short set on the grand piano at The Goodshed, before joining us for our usual energetic and frenetic open jam. Jim is a towering presence on the Bristol scene, in fine groups and producing fine compositions since 1991. I like his quote by the Independent on Sunday: ‘Jim Blomfield is the best British pianist you’ve never heard of and is an absolute marvel’! Stroud Jazz Sessions is a hub for jazz enthusiasts and performers, every 2nd Thurs of the month. A monthly special guest gives a performance with house band, before opening up for an all-welcome jam.
