Big Boss Man
Saturday 21 March 8.30pm
SVA, 4 John Street, Stroud, GL5 2HA
It is with incomprehensible joy that we welcome Big Boss Man for a night of funk, soul and boogaloo as only they know how. These purveyors of the finest soul music join us off the back of the release of their fourth album ‘The Last Man on Earth’ and appearances on BBC 6music and Radio 2. Expect a ‘hip hybrid of ’60s and ’70s drenched R&B, Funk, Latin, Jazz, Soul and Psych. Sampled by Thievery Corporation and had their music used in The Mighty Boosh film "Sweet" (BAFTA nominated) as well as the Nike World Cup advert. They have played sessions on both BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music.
As featured by Cerys Matthews in the Guardian. “ Deepen the groove now with Big Boss Man, a modern resurrection of the great house band of Stax records, Booker T And The MGs. On Big Boss Man’s The Last Man On Earth album, the vintage organ sounds throb and swell, so get out your brown leather driving gloves and rock the 70s vibe all the way to work"
Supported and hosted by The Bernards with DJ sets until late.
Tickets: £7 in advance, £9 on the door

Sightseers
Film screening plus Q&A with lead actor and writer Alice Lowe
Saturday 23rd May 7.30pm till 10pm
SVA, Goods Shed, Station Yard, Stroud, GL5 3AP
Character comedians Alice Lowe and Steve Oram originally created and played killer caravanners Tina and Chris onstage and in short films, before developing the characters with Big Talk and Film4 into a Ben Wheatley directed feature film with additional material by regular Wheatley collaborator Amy Jump. Filmed after Wheatley's critically acclaimed Kill List and before his eerie civil war project A Field In England, Sightseers may be Wheatley's most accessible film to date, particularly to fans of British comedy, who may recognise stars Lowe and Oram from performances in Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, Tittybangbang and stage work on tour with Steve Coogan.
