Redhanded is pleased to present two solo shows: Hundreds of Thousands by Alexandra Darbyshire Flood and Sally Hampson’s Kitty Lake 1904 - 2001. Redhanded is a new temporary art space curated by artists Sally Hampson and Esther Caplin in partnership with SVA. Alexandra will present her current painting series Black White Swan, which explores the visual effects of military aircraft decoy flare smoke set against the sky. Kitty Lake (anthropologist and explorer 1904 - 2001) collection of photographs, journals and artefacts creates a visual narrative of her life. Sally Hampson has followed in Kitty Lake’s footsteps retracing her journeys. Redhanded is profiling work and projects that have been supported by SVA in Stroud and connecting with artists, artist-led projects and communities based in London.

Stroud Jazz Sessions: George Cooper

George Cooper will be guest pianist for Stroud Jazz Sessions this month. George Cooper is a vibrant and exciting young pianist who is able to combine mainstream lyrical melodies with a contemporary, cinematic approach to jazz. Whether to dig in and groove, or sup a glass of wine with friends, come and join us for the fun. Gig starts at 8.30pm with a set by our special guest then opens up into a friendly, welcoming jam, peppered with dazzling appearances by our special guest.

How to make the most of Open Studios and Art Weeks/Trails

Open Studios Network & Comms present ways of making the most of your Open Studios or Art Weeks event either as an organiser or artist. An overview of what social media and online options are available and how to use Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn together with (or without) a website. How to protect your work (Intellectual Property rights) through copyright of your work and organisations which help artists with these aspects. Important aspects of presentation and increasing your audience will be included; how dovetailing activities can reduce the time they take and improve their effectiveness. Integrating activities to increase promotion of all connections on the internet - artists : organisation : network. The greater the number of connections, the more accessible your profile becomes.

The aim of Open Forum 2014 is to allow Matt Roberts Arts to use our experience to provide advice to artists in regions where thecommercial sector is developing and less visible. There will be six one-to-one feedback feedback sessions on developing your commercial practice with Anna Harnden of Tryon St gallery, London. There will also be six one to one sessions with Matt Roberts, discussing ways to promote your practice. In the evening there will be a panel discussion between Matt Roberts, Anna Harnden, and Sarah Bowden of Meantime gallery, Cheltenham about opportunities to show your work, sell your work, and ways in which the sector is changing.

From October, Abbi Kirby will be running a series of workshops for artists and designer makers at SVA. The programme aims to support and develop creative practice. There will be two types of workshops visual research & reading room. This is a great opportunity to learn and be inspired with a group. Each workshop has been selected to complement one another.

Surviving RiffRaff Poets Dennis Gould and Jeff Cloves will perform work from their book RiffRaffRocks. RRR is about music: thirtyfour popular singers jazz and rocknroll musicians (plus a few poets) appear in its pages from: Blind Lemon Jefferson to Anita O’Day Aretha Franklin to Bob Dylan Miles Davis to Dinah Washington. They – and loads more celebrate the rhythm of our lives poetry performance 9 – 10pm meanwhile at the decks Ella Fantasia will also celebrate with her own mix of cool jazz hot swing Rhythm and Blues and Rockanroll. RiffRaffRocks published on 4th April by Ourside Stroud will be on sale at SVA for two quid and commemorates Pat(ricia) VT West who was part of the wandering troupe RiffRaff Poets from its first gig in St Ives 1971 and thereafter until her death in 2008 SVA beatniks – be there or be square. |

BandiT 12

Bandit 12 has the theme of 'Time' meaning that the students will write songs about certain points in time. Special guests will be talking and performing on the subjects. BandiT is a three day rock and pop workshop for 55 students aged 8 to 17. Students throughout the community come together to form bands and to be creative in writing, recording and performing.The prime function of the workshop is to give young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience in musicianship, creative song writing, recording techniques and performance skills. The Workshop project will be held at Maidenhill School on 7-9th April with the final performance at SVA.

This month Redhanded presents paintings by Zoe Benbow and sculpture and installation by Alison Cockcroft, Emily Joy and Aimee Lax. Redhanded is a new temporary art space in King's Cross, curated by artists Sally Hampson and Esther Caplin in partnership with SVA. Redhanded is profiling work and projects that have been supported by SVA in Stroud and will build connections with artists, artist led projects and communities based in London. SVA has established a reputation for injecting energy into run down, redundant and empty properties in Stroud, Gloucestershire. This highly successful approach to local engagement and town centre vitalisation is now being brought to this central, well-established and culturally diverse area of London. There will be regular updates of its programme and workshops in weaving, printing and bookmaking. You are warmly invited to visit by arrangement during other days.
