			Camper Obscura Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th May 11am-6pm Stroud Town Centre and Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP www.fotonow.org After a year of planning, the Summer of 2010 saw Fotonow bring their project Camper Obscura into life. Photographers Jonathan Blyth and Matthew Pontin had already established a practice in working with communities in building camera obscuras and the idea of a mobile vehicle emerged in the shape of a Foster and Day coach-built 1986 VW T25 camper van. We estimate that nearly 15000 people have jumped on board the Camper Obscura since our very first appearance, making for a very busy and sociable experience of photography. Camper Obscura is always run as a free experience and continues its journeys around the region, appearing in schools to deliver photography, workshops and heading off to festivals. Fotonow CIC, based in Plymouth, delivers community-focused education work and photographic research across the South West of England.

			Art Flea Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th May 10am-4pm Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP www.artflea.co.uk Over the 18th and 19th May, the Goods Shed will be transformed into Art Flea, a bizarre bazaar which draws together under one roof a dizzying collection of artistic enterprises and creative collaborations. Staged by Jo Fry and Julie Howe, Art Flea is part flea-market, part conceptual art experiment, and part car-boot sale, featuring a wide variety of artist-run stalls alongside live performance, film screenings and fabulous food. This year’s inaugural event runs across an entire weekend. Saturday’s programme includes workshops with John Hegley, Andrew Bailey’s Architectural Hairdressing supported by the Monastery Of Sound, Mik Artistik telling tales of his adventures through the mediums of biro and paper bag, and, in association with Meantime Project-Space, the latest in a series of Maximalist projects by John Walter – a unique hybrid of painting, hospitality, performance and collaboration. At the same time, pop-up exhibition spaces curated by Illustration Gallery, artist-run gallery INDEX and Bristol’s nomadic art gallery Antlers, will showcase editions, multiples and original art from their diverse stable of artists. The Bristol Art Library will be open for browsing, its collection of 170 artist books housed in a cabinet the size of a suitcase under the supervision of Head Librarian Annabel Other. Camper Obscura, meanwhile, turn an 80s VW camper van into a giant fully-functioning camera. Curated environments include Pippa Tideman’s A Small Area Of Misguided Escapism, an indoor beach complete with buckets, spades and souvenirs, and Folk In A Box’s travelling one-on-one music venue which comes to Art Flea after appearances at Tate Britain and the South Bank. Secreted inside a vintage Sprite caravan, meanwhile, is Dr Penelope Counterpane, ready to give advice on matters of the heart – flirting tips, confidence building and a Quick-Fix Problem-Nix (one-minute wisdom for those in a hurry). Refreshment will also be on hand throughout the event, including The Silver Rocketeer’s mobile Art Deco cocktail lounge; Mr Retrocool, a 60s ice cream van; and Delight Vintage, who can be found wheeling a tea-trolley of decadent delights. The entertainment continues on Saturday evening with a special event hosted by the inimitable Johnny Quiz and his band The Men With One Name. (Warning: includes the now-legendary round Lap Dance Charades.) And on Sunday morning there’s an all-ages performance by musical maverick Kid Carpet, whose brand new touring show Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals is a typically fantastical adventure following the fortunes of four animals on their journey to magical superstardom.Theatrical, inspiring and decidedly different, Art Flea promises interactive fun for all the family, featuring Camper Obscura, Annabel Other, Negative Space, Alison Goldie, Mr Mead, Lady K Loves, Coast to Coast, Sam Marsh, Nothing But Navy, Polly Wales, Nick White, Stroud Brewery, Darius Akashic, Studio Legohead, Yasemin Wigglesworth and Kate Beer, Sarika Thakorial, Andy Fry, Rosie Coombes and much more...

			Johnny Quiz Saturday 18th May 8pm Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP For your kind consideration Mr Johnny Quiz presents antics on notions of the fantastic, the whimsy of imagined worlds and the riddles of rubber clad buttocks. With Fantasy Johnny explores the deep recesses of the mind where elves look down upon dwarfs in public but dress them in white blouses and pleated skirts behind closed doors; He asks what is that for? And how did you get it in there? What was the safe word? And without fear or consternation he evokes the lust of the battle axe, the prick of a short sword and a fling with a trebuchet. He has warmed his ring in the fires of Mordor and has devised a series of fiendishly silly tests to pit your wits against. 			Animat presents Dark Star Sunday 19th May 8pm Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP www.animat.co.uk Dark Star, John Carpenter’s first feature is widely regarded as a cult classic and a seminal influence on 21st century scifi. Co-written by and starring Alien screenwriter Dan O’Bannon, this 1970s low budget space comedy has found its place in the science fiction pantheon as the missing link between 2001: A Space Odyssey and Red Dwarf. Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals follows four animals as they make friends, play games, need to go to the toilet, contemplate the world and finally rock out at a grand dance contest. 			Mik Artistik's Ego Trip Friday 17th May 8.30pm SVA, 4 John St, Stroud, GL5 2HA www.mikartistik.com Mik Artistik's Ego Trip are a strange and wonderful beast of a band juggling stand up, rock and performance art effortlessly ..and even gettin funky with it. It's an incredibly daft, joyful and sometime poignant affair, as Mik tumbles around the stage, spluttering lyrics, occasionally tripping over leads, or sprinkling straws over the audience, while the elegant engine of Benson Walker on bass and Jonny Flockton on guitar hold down the melodies. They've drawn wild and enthusiastic crowds at Glastonbury for the last five years as well as storming appearances at Port Eliot, Latitude,Leeds Festival in the same period. 			Open Studios Weekend one 11 th-12th May 11am-6pm Weekend two 18 th-19th May 11am-6pm 72 artists will be opening thier studio doors in 36 open studios locations around the five valleys for two weekends showing their work. It's a fantastic insight into a diverse range of artists practice, to talk to artists and find out more about thier parctice and to buy work diirectly. 			10x10 John Wood and Paul Harrison Opening night: Saturday 4th May 7-9pm Sunday 5th May 12 noon-3pm Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May 11am-6pm Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May 11am-6pm SVA, 4 John Street, Stroud GL5 2HA 10x10, An office block, 100 floors, 10 colours, 1 person. John Wood and Paul Harrison have been working collaboratively since 1993 producing single screen and installation based video works. The work investigates the relationship between the human figure and architecture, developed through short form video (20 seconds – 3 minutes) with particular emphasis on actions being formulated and resolved within a given duration. Each work holds to an internal ‘logic’, action related to duration. Within this ‘logical world’ (architectural space, the gallery space, the business office, the laboratory) action is allowed to happen for no logical reason, a tension exists between the environment and its inhabitant, play is encouraged and influences are intentionally mixed – art history, slapstick, Open University instruction, drawing, science... 			Unit 56 4th-31st May Opening night: Saturday 4th May 7-9pm 56 High Street, Stroud GL5 1AS An eclectic and diverse mix of artists will be bringing guerrilla TV, dog in a trash can and painting by numbers to the high street with Mould TV , Simon Brundret and Sarah Dixon. Other work will be on show including Victoria Garden's bold bird motif paintings, Catell Ronca's collages, Sam Marsh and Ed Lawrenson's "Polyrhythmic Snarl" and Dan Sparkes.
