Wasteland at the First Spark Festival

First Spark will mark the ancient festival of Imbolc, a festival of the hearth and home, celebrating the lengthening days and the early signs of spring. The festival will include special broadcasts and live performances, such as, Ergo Phizmiz’s Arts Council England funded mini-operas, Fulcanelli’s Shoes and The Mourning Show. This festival will also celebrate the newly established spaces for Soundart Radio Station, including a broadcasting studio, social, office and workshops spaces. It is the beginning of a new era for Soundart and we hope this to be the first spark of this new stage in our activities. Presented by Uta Baldauf and Christy O’Donnell, for First Spark, the Wasteland project can be seen and heard and welcomes the audience to interact. A transient project which can respond to and be influenced by site and social contexts, it brings together a shared love and interest for contemporary art, philosophy and experimental radio and the fusion between them. Wasteland is an experience, don’t expect anything but keep your eye out and an ear.

David Behar-Perahia’s first exhibition “Invisible Structura I” , in the Cathedral will start with a procession performance in collaboration with composer Edwin Hillier, dancers
Katherine Glicks and Ruth Cross, Gloucester Cathedral Stone Masons, members of the
Cathedral choir.

Artist in residence at Gloucester Cathedral David Behar-Perahia is a French/Israeli multi-faceted
artist working in diverse media: video, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance, mostly within a site-specific approach. In his work he is observing the notion of “place” to discover the layers that compose a local context, while relating to the cultural, social, historical and physical-geographical aspects.

His background in Science and Architecture enables him to approach localities in a unique way. During the last decade he has exhibited extensively in Israel, the UK, France, Italy (including the 53rd Venice Biennale) and Greece.

Site Festival June 2011 : A festival of artist-led projects

The site festival, now in its 15th year will present the work of over 300 artists in over 80 sites across the Stroud Valleys during the whole month of June. The site festival provides a platform for artists and artist collectives to show new work, to initiate projects, work collaboratively or alongside other artists in a diverse range of sites across the district for a month long programme of exhibitions, open studios, film screenings, talks, music events and performance.

Site Festival is inviting artists to submit project proposals for this year’s Site Festival programme. Projects can include site-specific based works, screenings, talks, workshops, exhibitions, performance events etc. The Site Festival often acts as a conduit between artists and vacant properties, redundant sites, venues and festival
partners.
