A
large plasma screen, installed in the main atrium of the new
Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, is the public face of Elixir.
This is showing a programme of artist's works - video, animation,
sound, dance and performance - over a two year period, starting
in April 2007. This programme is being curated by artNucleus
and Stroud Valleys Artspace.
Alongside this, Elixir is running eight artist residencies
in the hospital, pairing artists with individual hospital
departments. These are intended as enquiring, experimental
residencies aimed at producing new screen-based works to engage,
entertain and challenge the viewer. The resulting works will
be incorporated into the curated programme on the Elixir screen.
The Elixir residencies are being supported by Stroud Valleys
Artspace (SVA) through their well-equipped Digital Resource
of video and sound-editing equipment, and through providing
specialist training as required. SVA will also link the residents
with local artists and audiences.
