Alice Forward wins the site09 darbyshire award

The site09 darbyshire award exhibition at the Museum in the Park in Stroud presented work from an open submission of over 100 UK based contemporary artists shortlisted by Tom Trevor, director of the Arnolfini in Bristol.

Alice Forward was selected for the site09 darbyshire award by
Tom Trevor on Saturday June 20th.

Darbyshire Framers will be supplying framing services to Alice Forward and SVA will also host a solo exhibition of her work at John Street, Stroud in Spring 2010. Darbyshire Framers is a leading framer and art fabricator in the contemporary art world and has attracted a range of high-profile artists to commercial and public galleries such as Gagosian and White Cube Galleries

The site09 darbyshire award sits at the centre of the Site festival programme, which is providing a platform for artists and artist collectives to show new work, to initiate projects, work collaboratively or alongside other artists in a diverse range of sites across the district. SVA, the festival host organisation, firmly assert the right for all artists to be involved in the programme, from opening their studios to the public, to developing projects of their own. The Site Festival’s inclusive programme aims to present the work of a diversity of artists that are currently practising not just locally but nationally and internationally. Over the last few years nationally respected artists and curators such as Tom Trevor have been involved in the selection of parts of the programme to which internationally significant artists have increasingly wanted to contribute.

The site darbyshire award began in 2007 and runs every June during the Site Festival held in Stroud. The 2008 exhibition was curated and the winner selected by Peter Liversidge, who has exhibited widely in Europe and the US and was selected by the British Council as the UK’s representing artist for the Europalia Festival in Brussels.

The site08 darbyshire award winner was Emily Smith. Her resulting exhibition 'Retrace Scripting Memory', was presented at SVA in February this year.

The 2007 winner was Aimee Lax selected by Mark Darbyshire, Jean Boyd and Gavin McClafferty. Aimee's award exhibition Confines and Mutations was present at SVA in 2008.
